Young people, up to the age of 40, residents of the capital, university graduates and people with a high standard of living are the most passionate fans of Bulgarian cinematography

Some 22% of adult Bulgarians have seen a new Bulgarian movie in a cinema in the last year, showed data from the nationally representative survey of BBSS Gallup International, commissioned by Klassa daily.

Despite the crisis, Bulgarian cinematography enjoyed great success in the last two years. Several new titles have attracted Bulgarian audiences to the cinemas and have outranked in attendance some of the world's blockbusters. The premiere of each successive film is already eagerly awaited by the public and tickets are often not enough for the interested cinema fans.

Every fifth citizen over 18 years of age or 71% of Bulgarian cinema-goers have seen at least one Bulgarian film in the last year.
Young Bulgarians, up to 40 years of age, residents of the capital, graduates and people with a high standard of living are the most passionate fans of Bulgarian cinematography. Nearly 40% of the residents of the capital have gone to the cinema to see a Bulgarian film in the last year.

Furthermore, the higher rates of attendance of already shown movies provide good signs for the development of Bulgarian cinematography in the near future. Almost half (47%) of the adult population plan to visit a cinema in order to watch a Bulgarian movie this year.

Moreover - 95% of the people who have seen a new Bulgarian movie in a cinema in the last year intend to do so again in the next 12 months. Apparently, the new Bulgarian titles provoke deep interest.

The positive attitude of the audience towards the new films of Bulgarian cinematography is confirmed once again by the fact that 50% of the respondents assessed positively the development of Bulgarian cinema in recent years. Positive estimates recorded a significant increase, compared to the data from the previous year. In the summer of 2010, only one-third of Bulgarians were of the opinion that Bulgarian cinema was developing well. The percentage of negative appraisals fell almost two times, compared to last year’s pessimistic estimates (from 16% in 2010 to 10% this year).

There is a similar trend in the assessment of Bulgarians of national television series and shows. In practice, all popular television channels in our country broadcast Bulgarian serials and new formats of shows. A significant part of these enjoy high audience interest. Today, some 60% of Bulgarians believe that the quality of home television products is improving. The proportion of positive ratings increased by 13%, compared to last summer’s figures, while negative appraisals are below 10%.
