Electricity in Bulgaria 3.5 times cheaper as compared to EU

Economy

Sofia. Electricity prices in Bulgaria are 3.5 times lower as compared to tariffs in EU, Economy and Energy minister Traycho Traykov told the parliament during the discussions on the amendments to the Energy Act. The parliament adopted the amendments with 81 votes in favor, 9 against and 17 abstained. A check up with the energy.eu web site reveals Bulgaria is the country with cheapest electricity. Even after the uptake planned for July the margin will be preserved. The raise will be no larger than 10%, as the regulatory commission already said. CEZ, EBN and E.On requested uptakes of between 3.6% and 9.1%. The national Electric Company (NEK) asked for 8.5% raise. Monitor daily informs.
