Brussels. The European Commission launched a public consultation on finding ways to secure long-term financing for the EU economy. For three months the EC will collect ideas on how to attract long-term investments – spending that enhances the productive capacity of the economy. Due to the financial crisis, EU member states focused on urgent economic growth measures, but long-term planning must not recede into the background. For this reason, the EC announced the so-called “Green Paper” to collect ideas on the possible financing sources, the BNT reports. “Ensuring our economy and our financial sector – including banks and institutional investors such as insurers and pension funds – are capable of funding long-term investments is an important but complex task,” EU Internal Market Commissioner Michel Barnier said.
