Construction of Trakia motorway to begin
PM Boyko Borissov, Minister of Regional Development and Public Works, Rosen Plevneliev, Transport Minister, Aleksandar Tsvetkov, representatives of the building contractor, and others will attend today the turning of the first sod of Lot 2 of the Trakia motorway, connecting Stara Zagora and Nova Zagora. The tender for selecting a building contractor for this section was invited at the end of 2009 and Magistrala Trace company was selected in February 2010, having offered the lowest price of BGN 137.8 mln.
Magistrala Trace has 24 months to construct the 32-km-long section. The contract with the company was signed in mid-April. Money from the budget will be extended after a Government decision in order to start the construction of Lot 2 immediately. The funds will be repaid to the budget after approval by the European Commission. “By the end of the year, we expect to absorb about 35% of the agreed funds,” the company promised. According to Tzvetan Tzonev, CEO of Trace Group Hold, Lot 2 of will be built using new technology and a special, more resilient and firm asphalt.
