Bulgarian exports increase by 33% in 2010

In 2010, Bulgaria exported goods worth BGN 30.4 bn, while the exports increased by 33% year-on-year, indicates the latest data of NSI (National Statistical Institute). Just in December total exports amounted to BGN 2.7 bn and increased by 45% compared to the same month of the previous year, which approximated the peak rates being realised during the summer months of July (+ 47.1%) and of August (+ 48%). 

Generally, Bulgaria imported goods worth BGN 37.4 bn or by 13.3% more year-on-year. In December, the total imports increased by 29% versus the same month of the previous year and reached BGN 3.6 bn, reported statistics.

The total foreign trade balance was negative in 2010 and stood at BGN 7 bn, which was over BGN 3.1 bn lower year-on-year. Only for the last month of last year, the total foreign trade balance was negative and amounted to BGN 864.3 mln.

Last year, exports to third countries increased by 48.5% year-on-year up to BGN 11.90 bn. Outside the EU, Bulgaria's main trading partners are Turkey, Serbia, Russia, Macedonia, the United States, Ukraine, China and Singapore, which constituted 56.4% of exports. The most serious positive growth was marked by Ukraine and China - by 98.1% and by 97%, respectively. Merely for December, Bulgaria exported goods and services to third parties estimated at BGN 1.2 bn. The preliminary data of statistics reported double-digit increase of exports to the EU. For January-November, it amounted to BGN 17 bn and registered a positive growth of 8%.

Last year, imports from third countries also marked positive growth, but it advanced at a rather slower pace of just 17.1% year-on-year and stood at BGN 15.5 bn. The imports from Egypt, Albania and Israel registered the highest growth. Imports from Peru rose by 73.9%, while from the United Arab Emirates by 59.3%. In fact, imports from Kazakhstan, South Africa and Norway reported the greatest negative growth. Only in the last month of 2010, Bulgaria's imports from third countries increased by 45.6% versus the same month of the previous year and reached overall BGN 1.6 bn.
