Bulgarian President launches ninth annual ‘Bulgarian Christmas’ charity campaign

The ninth annual "Bulgarian Christmas" (Българската Коледа) charity initiative, intended to raise funds for medical treatment for seriously ill children and to buy medical equipment for paediatric clinics, has been launched.
 
The campaign is under the patronage of President Georgi Purvanov and his wife Zorka. President-elect Rossen Plevneliev, who takes office in January 2012, has said that he will continue the campaign.
 
The previous eight Bulgarian Christmas campaigns have raised more than 18.1 million leva (about nine million euro), which assisted the treatment of more than 1000 Bulgarian children, while close to 14 million leva was spent on medical equipment for children’s hospitals and other treatment facilities.

The campaign said in a media statement on November 30 that the number for sending money via SMS would be announced in coming days.
 
Thanks to co-operation with Epay AD, this year donations can be made online through the electronic payment system e-pay, as well as directly using VISA and MasterCard credit cards, the media statement said.
 
On December 25, there will be a charity show at the Ivan Vazov National Theatre, broadcast live on bTV.
