Bulgaria works actively for security of foreign tourists

Bulgaria has achieved a serious progress in guaranteeing security of foreign tourists during the past 2-3 years, Bulgarian Minister of Interior Tsvetan Tsvetanov said after the traditional annual meeting with foreign ambassadors after the summer season. Tourism forms 12-14% of Bulgarian GDP. The number of tourists for the past season has grown by 5%, the Minister added.

Minister Tsvetanov pointed out that in 2012, the police did not receive a single complaint from foreigners traveling through Bulgaria to other countries. The biggest problem in the work of the police with foreign tourists is language barrier but according to Tsvetanov his ministry has already taken measures in this direction, according to recommendations of ambassadors.

“Students in the Academy of the Ministry of Interior, who speak foreign languages will be used actively in the summer months. We have also agreed with ambassadors that information leaflets could be updated in 2013.”

UK Ambassador to Bulgaria Jonathan Allen thanked the Bulgarian Ministry of Interior for its work related to citizens of Great Britain.

“It is important for us that issues have been discussed in a series of meetings and the Ministry has been working according to our recommendations. Concrete results have been achieved but there is more room for progress, especially in resorts like Sunny Beach and others. I think that continuing cooperation and communication will give even better results next year,” the ambassador said.

Here is what Minister Tsvetanov said about the upcoming winter season.
“In the summer we sent a total of 577 policemen from different regions to the seaside resorts. We are going to do the same in the winter. We are taking a number of measures to increase security in resorts. There even will be officers on the ski runs,” the Minister says.
