Bulgaria's Sofia to Work on Improving Traffic

City-planning

The mayor of Sofia, Yordanka Fandakova, has announced that the municipality has a clear vision for managing traffic in the capital and is starting to work on it.
“We are preparing the strategic documents but the more important thing is that we starting to work on the program,” Fandakova said Tuesday.
She added that the construction of five crossroads on two levels in Sofia will begin in three years and explained that part of the funds from the European Investment Bank for crossroads on two levels, which amount to EUR 68 M, will be redirected to other projects with bigger priority. Fandakova said that according to the contract, the municipality should provide 50% of the financing.
The mayor also said that this year the construction of the bridge “Lavov Most” will begin. She also added that the park “Vazrazhdane” will be trimmed and circus arenas will be put there.
Fandakova noted that the implementation of the first half of 2010 was 109% in comparison to the same period last year. She said that it was too early for her to confirm whether she would run for mayor again because, in her words, she had to present not only herself, but the ruling party GERB as well.
