Bulgaria allocates millions to boost cultural tourism

Culture

Bulgaria’s Cabinet has allocated 162 million leva to cultural tourism projects in 35 municipalities.

Announcing the decision on July 27 2011, Regional Development Minister Rossen Plevneliev said it was a huge opportunity for regions to make money "from every stone and every tourist attraction".

The long list of projects involves, among others, the Madara Horseman near the town of Shoumen; the ninth-century capital of Bulgaria, Veliki Preslav; St Anastasia island and the ancient holy site of Perperikon near Kurdjali.

Signing of contracts on the implementation of the projects is to begin next week
