The Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works allocated 9.5 million leva for projects that would strengthen small-scale landslide prevention infrastructure in urban areas, weekly Stroitelstvo Gradut repoted.
Eight million leva will be allocated under the European Union operational programme for regional development and the balance will come from the Bulgarian government.
The programme will cover a total of 86 communities in 36 urban areas, with projects ranging from 300 000 to one million leva.
Amongst some of the major ventures earmarked for the programme are: the hillside above the Burgas summer theatre, which will take 20 months to complete and cost 990 000 leva; the river bank near Ruse's Pridounavski Blvd, which will cost one million leva and has to be completed within 18 months; the road between Montana and Vidin in northwestern Bulgaria, for which 815 000 leva have been earmarked and which must be completed within a year.
