Bulgaria Mulls Opening Culture Institute in Spain

Bulgaria's government is considering its options for opening a Bulgarian Cultural Institute in Spain, Bulgarian Culture Minister Vezhdi Rashidov said after meeting Spanish Ambassador in Sofia H.E. Jose Luis Tapia.

During their meeting on Thursday, they discussed specific bilateral culture projects, the press service of the Bulgarian Culture Ministry said.

Bulgarian Culture Minister Vezhdi Rashidov has praised the work of theCervantes Institute in Sofia, and told His Excellency he deems it crucial for Bulgaria to open a similar institution in Spain, a country that a very popular destination for Bulgarian migrants, and has a large Bulgarian diaspora.

"We will be relying on the Spanish side to assist us in this process... Spanish culture with its richness and diversity is well-known and highly appreciated in Bulgaria, and we likewise wish to present Bulgaria's unique and rich cultural heritage and contemporary culture to the Spanish public," Rashidov is quoted as saying.

Ambassador Jose Luis Tapia has informed Rashidov of the upcoming visits to Bulgaria of Nobel Price recipient, Peruvian-Spanish writer Mario Vargas Llosa, and emblematic Spanish film director Carlos Saura.
