Bulgaria Moves to Woo Chinese Tourists

Tourism

Bulgaria considers implementing measures to attract more Chinese tourists, a Bulgarian MP said during a Chinese parliamentary delegation's visit to the country.
"The language barrier and the lack of a direct Beijing-Sofia flight are among the main issues that stop Chinese tourists from visiting Bulgaria," Dimitar Boychev of Bulgaria's ruling centrist-right GERB told reporters on Monday.
"We are launching intensive work towards resolving the difficulties, since it is time we opened our resorts to China," he added.
Boychev, who is chairman of the Bulgaria-China Friendship Group in his country's Parliament, revealed that he has already invited Chinese tour operators and journalists to visit Bulgaria.
The MP stated that Chinese tourists will be interested not only in Bulgaria's summer and winter resorts, but also in cultural heritage.
The delegation, led by the Deputy Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Chinese General Assembly, Dja PeiSin, arrived in Bulgaria on Saturday and is to departure on Monday.
The visit was initiated by the Deputy Chair of the Group for Friendship with China at the European Parliament, Bulgarian MEP, Iliana Ivanova.
