Sofia hosts exhibition of Bulgarian Revival hand-made house models

An exhibition of Bulgarian Revival hand-made models of houses opened on June 8 2011 at the Ethnographic Museum (1 Battenberg Sqr) in Sofia, under the auspices of the Bulgarian Culture Ministry and the embassy of Norway in Sofia.

The models, built by Todor Nanchev, at one-hundredth of actual size, are not copies of real houses but a product of Nanchev's imagination. The towns of Koprivshtitsa and Melnik are the two take great pride in their Bulgarian Revival architecture.

Nanchev describes his works as "a synthesis of architecture, fine art, design and history." His idea is to make exhibition visitors visualise 18th century Bulgarian Revival.

Italian ambassador in Bulgaria Stefano Benazzo will participate in the exhibition with a model of a Norway church he has made. The exhibition will be on display until July 8.
